Frequently Asked Questions

Is it the right time for counselling?

At Lotus, we believe that there is one critical factor for success in counselling: readiness. Even creating the smallest changes in our lives can present with unparalleled barriers. Prochaska’s stage of change highlights the stages involved in making changes in our lives (pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action & maintenance).

If you believe that you are either in the contemplative or preparation stage of change – it is the right time for counselling. This will be discussed further in the initial phone consultation.

What can I expect?

Initiating therapy is a moment that takes strength for many. It is making the choice to open yourself up, not knowing what might be waiting for you. This is why therapy can feel uncomfortable at times; whether this may be the first time you are addressing something that you have locked away for years or going through a journey to re-define your life, it can leave you feeling vulnerable. Emotional safety is our priority and we want you to let us know when moments feel tough. Trusting the process and being engaged in it, will soon start to allow you to experience the outcomes you are looking for.
